  • Basic Warranty: 4 Years / 50,000 Miles
  • Drivetrain Warranty: 6 Years / 70,000 Miles
  • Roadside Assistance: 6 Years / 70,000 Miles

A vehicle's warranty can significant impact your maintenance costs after you drive off the dealer's lot, and it's important to understand the different parts. Typically, a new car warranty includes a Basic warranty, which covers everything except the wear items such as brakes and tires; and a Drivetrain warranty, that covers all the parts that make the car move, such as the engine and transmission

Loading Comparison...

The Cadillac SRX is a five-passenger luxury crossover SUV with a placid ride, potent powertrain, deluxe accommodations, and the latest technology. Unlike the big, dazzling, chrome-bedecked Escalade, built on a GM truck platform, the SRX is built on a unitbody, like a car. The two models could hardly be more different, especially in capabilities and road behavior.

Although SRX is now the oldest model in Cadillac’s lineup, it still appears fresh. Tasteful, too, because GM’s decade-old Art & Science design theme is more subtle on the SRX. Little has changed for 2016, other than deleting adjustable pedals from the Luxury edition. This is the SRX’s final season, as a replacement named XT5 is expected for 2017.

Only a single powertrain is offered: a strong and smooth 3.6-liter V6 engine, making 308 horsepower and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available. Acceleration is satisfactory, taking about seven seconds to reach 60 mph.

SRX ranks near the peak of its class in safety, having earned five-star crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick.

On the downside, this crossover has a heavier driving feel than expected. That’s partly due to transmission gearing, but mainly the result of vehicle weight, well above two tons. At the same time, fuel economy scores significantly below average. Cadillac provides quite an array of safety systems, including adaptive cruise control and cross traffic alert, as well as a Safety Alert seat and automatic front/rear braking assist.

As for overall technology, SRX has practically been a showcase for some of the latest devices and systems. Every SRX has Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system, which includes enhanced controls, plus an eight-inch screen interface with proximity sensing.

Four trim levels are available, each with an interior that’s distinctive as well as luxurious. Active noise cancellation uses a microphone to detect ambient noise and counteracts harshness, making the interior remarkably quiet. GM’s OnStar system includes 4G LTE connectivity, allowing creation of an in-car wi-fi network.

The base SRX ($37,605) comes with leatherette seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power eight-way driver’s seat, heated power mirrors, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Bose premium eight-speaker audio includes HD radio and SiriusXM satellite radio. Halogen headlights include a Twilight Sentinel. The base SRX has 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Upgrading to the Luxury Collection ($43,640) adds a power liftgate, UltraView sunroof, rearview camera, leather-upholstered seats, heated front seats, heated wood-rim steering wheel, power-folding mirrors, keyless access, a cargo shade, and auto-dimming mirrors. Aluminum 18-inch wheels have a bright machine finish.

The Performance Collection ($46,030) adds 20-inch aluminum wheels painted accents, high-intensity-discharge headlights with adaptive forward lighting, foglamps, adjustable pedals, and a Bose 10-speaker surround-sound system.

Topping the line, the Premium Collection ($48,920) includes tri-zone automatic climate control and heated outboard rear seats. A Driver Awareness package adds a Safety Alert seat, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, and high-beam control.

A Driver Assist package is optional for Luxury, Performance, and Premium models, adding adaptive cruise control, automatic collision preparation, and automatic braking to the Driver Awareness group.

SRX manages to tuck a familiar crossover-SUV profile beneath Cadillac-style curves and sharp angles. The combination falls on the edge side of the design spectrum, when compared to such vehicles as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, or Mercedes-Benz GLC. Lacking the long-nose, rear-prominent proportions of Cadillac sedans, flaunting minimal bling, the SRX might not be deemed seductive, but chiseled contours give it an appearance that differs from the customary competitors.

Vertically stacked headlights, plus relatively short overhangs at both ends, help erase any flagrant SUV cues. A strong character line stretches from the front wheelwell all the way to the taillight. Optional 20-inch wheels are especially striking.

Refined and subtle, the cockpit is a modern blend of large touchscreen interfaces with well-done, traditional details, led by stitched leather trim and hand-cut/sewn instrument-panel coverings.

Well-contoured seats, front and rear, provide ample space for five. Front occupants benefit from extendable thigh bolsters. Most riders should be pleased by the seat height.

Quiet-riding and comfortable, the SRX boasts an instrument panel that’s markedly more advanced than expected. Touch-based controls operate with “haptic” feedback as well as proximity-sensing technology.

Back-seat passengers should appreciate the long moonroof, which imparts an airy feel. Rear head and leg room are a tad snug, saved by helpful contouring and long cushions. The 60/40-split back seat can fold flat.

Able to pair up to ten Bluetooth devices, Cadillac’s CUE system can be frustrating, though its touch/swipe interface is fairly familiar. You’re given more choices only as your hands approach the screen. Sounds good, but CUE can suffer from glitches. It might suddenly lose a destination, or excessive sensitivity could register a command when nothing has been requested.

Driving Impressions

Handling of the SRX isn’t quite as sharp as it could be. Few are likely to dub it nimble, and an SRX feels somewhat heavy in hard cornering. Hydraulic-assisted steering is nicely weighted, though.

Performance also fails to inspire when a quick surge of power is warranted. Still, this crossover never feels sluggish, because of its 308-horsepower V-6. Emitting a nearly inaudible purr when idling, the V6 revs with a silken ease, feels refined, and drives a responsive six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models use a Haldex system with electronic limited-slip differential.

We prefer the optional FE3 suspension, which features Continuous Damping Control. It can basically read the road, adjusting every two milliseconds. Either suspension is taut enough for effective handling, without delivering a jarring ride.

Brakes tend to feel soft and spongy, and nosedive occurs in sudden stops.

Fuel economy falls notably short of average. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates 17 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway (19 mpg combined) with front-drive. All-wheel drops the estimate to 16/23 mpg. A BMW X1 or Audi Q5 would be thriftier.

Roomy inside and lavishly appointed, imparting an overall sense of solidity, the SRX rates among the nicest vehicles in its category. What sets the SRX apart is materials, fit, and finish, which match or beat likely competitors. Yes, handling and performance trail a bit, and gas mileage lags; but most owners aren’t likely to feel deprived.

About These Prices

As you know, pricing cars is particularly complicated. One of our duties at CarQuotes.com is to help our customers comprehend this process better.

Three important prices we may show on a particular vehicle

CarQuotes.com Estimated Target Price is for research purposes only. It reflects a typical, negotiated price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges, such as dealer documentation fees, tire and battery disposal fees, license and registration, and where applicable, finance charges) generally found for the vehicle that you selected. The Estimated Target Price is NOT a price quote from CarQuotes.com or any other dealer. If you request a price quote from a dealer via CarQuotes.com displaying an estimated target price, your price may differ.

Invoice is commonly known as the published amount that the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle. This may or may not represent a close relation to the dealer’s actual cost, but can be beneficial as a benchmark. This figure is available on many other web sites however CarQuotes.com adds an estimate of local and regional fees from manufacturer to the dealers to this price, which makes it very close to the actual invoice amount for cars at your local dealer.

MSRP is the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. This is a proposed price only. For most vehicles, the CarQuotes.com price is below this amount. Some high demand cars may be priced over this amount.

Estimated Target Price

The CarQuotes.com Target Price is to be used as a general guide that reflects a typical, market price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges) generally found for the vehicle that you selected. This price is based on our research and estimates of supply and demand in the marketplace. There are many factors that go into the final price of a particular vehicle including local supply and demand. Your final price may differ.

CarQuotes.com Estimated Target Prices include

The ’base’ price of the vehicle
All options that you select
Base Destination Charges — this is a charge that is added to the base price for every vehicle
Any related Estimated Manufacture to Consumer Cash Rebates. Note: rebates are subject to change at any time. Please make sure to confirm any consumer Cash rebates with your dealer representative at the time of purchase.

CarQuotes.com Estimated price(s) do NOT include any of the following:

Local taxes, license fees and other local fees, such as dealer documentation fees, tire and battery disposal fees, and where applicable, finance charges — these fees are also excluded from Dealer Invoice and MSRP and would be excluded from most advertisements you might see.

The Estimated CarQuotes Dealer Price is an estimate of the pricing presented to CarQuotes members from CarQuotes Authorized Dealers in your area, and is calculated by subtracting an estimated savings value from the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price ("MSRP") as well as a value that relates to invoice for the "ideal vehicle" you configured. Dealer documentation, administrative or similar processing fees are not included in the price estimate. Any vehicle configured on the CarQuotes website is an "ideal vehicle" and may not exist at a CarQuotes Authorized Dealer or any other partner dealer. Each Dealer attempts to match a member’s vehicle preferences with the best possible selection from current, in-stock inventory.

Estimated Savings

The Estimated Savings represents the estimated amount of savings off of MSRP available to you from CarQuotes Dealers for a vehicle consistent with your configured preferences plus any customer incentives currently available.  This is also true when it comes to CarQuotes estimated target prices. Your actual savings will depend on several factors including market conditions, the style of vehicle you select, installed options, dealer coverage, and applicable manufacturer incentives. Each dealer sets its own pricing.

Advertised Rebates, Special Manufacturer Financing or Leasing Programs

In most cases, you must choose between these programs OR a customer rebate or a special manufacturer-to-dealer incentive that may or may not already be included in your CarQuotes.com Target Price. So, your final price may go up if you take advantage of special manufacturer financing. Credit Union members should contact their Credit Union loan department to determine what type of loan and financing options are right for you.

Please note that CarQuotes.com strives to include identified manufacturer incentives within the CarQuotes.com Target Price. CarQuotes.com does not administer these programs, which are subject to and often change without notice. Eligibility for these programs is subject to verification by a licensed auto dealer.

Ask your dealer representative for complete manufacturer program details for your area, and how participation in these programs will affect your price.

Base Vehicle

The base vehicle is the vehicle before any optional equipment or destination fees have been added. All of the standard features are included in the base vehicle.

This is the total charge for all optional equipment included in the configuration of your virtual vehicle. The Options charge varies depending on whether it is calculated based on the Factory Invoice or MSRP. Options are not included in the base vehicle price and are not considered standard features.

Regional Fees

A Regional Fee is the fee a manufacturer charges a dealer to advertise and promote the vehicle in the dealer’s market. CarQuotes also includes estimated manufacturer preparation charges (manufacturer charges to the dealer to cover any work done on the car prior to delivering it to the dealership) and fuel charges (the charge for the fuel in the tank when the buyer purchases the vehicle) in this total. CarQuotes attempts to include regional ad fees in its Factory Invoice calculations; other sites at times do not.

Destination Fees

These are the amounts that manufacturers charge to deliver a vehicle from the factory to the dealership.

Customer Incentives

Customer incentives are also commonly known as customer cash or bonus incentives. These incentives are offered by manufacturers as a way of enticing buyers into purchasing a vehicle.

Note: Dealer Invoice amount might not be the amount that the dealer paid to the manufacturer

Dealer Invoice price may or may not bear close relation to a dealer’s actual cost for the vehicle. In some cases, a cost for a vehicle may be significantly less than the invoice price originally paid for the vehicle. Any difference between invoice price and the dealer’s final cost may be caused by many factors including factory refunds, rebates, allowances, or incentives which the manufacturer or distributor may provide to the dealer.
