What You Will Like

The Infiniti Q60 competes with other mid-sized coupes such as the BMW 4-series and the Audi A5. However, the Infiniti manages to undercut both of those cars by a couple of thousand dollars with a base price of just under $39,000 as opposed to more than $41,000 for either of the German cars. Even base model Q60s are well equipped, so those in the market for a luxury coupe owe it to themselves to check out Infiniti's offering.

What's New For 2018

Following its introduction as a new model in 2017, the 2018 Infiniti Q60 returns with only superficial changes. Solar Mica is a new exterior color, the Red Sport trim now features 20-inch wheels, and the model adopts Infiniti's global model and packaging nomenclature.

  • Basic Warranty: 4 Years / 60,000 Miles
  • Drivetrain Warranty: 6 Years / 70,000 Miles
  • Roadside Assistance: 4 Years / Unlimited Miles

A vehicle's warranty can significant impact your maintenance costs after you drive off the dealer's lot, and it's important to understand the different parts. Typically, a new car warranty includes a Basic warranty, which covers everything except the wear items such as brakes and tires; and a Drivetrain warranty, that covers all the parts that make the car move, such as the engine and transmission

Loading Comparison...

The rear-wheel-drive Infiniti Q60 is a flagship coupe based on the Q50 sedan. It was redesigned for 2017 with sheetmetal that gives it a gorgeous profile. It carried over unchanged for 2018.

All-wheel drive is available on all models.

The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, able to accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds. The available V6 is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter making 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The Red Sport 400 takes that engine and boosts it to 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet, by forcing air into the turbos; it can accelerate to 60 in 5.0 seconds, where it rivals the Mercedes AMG C63 and BMW M4 having 425 hp.

All three engines use a 7-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is available with any of the engines. The cabin isn’t as gorgeous as the body, but it tries. There is no convertible, but wouldn’t it be lovely if there were. The models are weirdly called the Pure, Luxe, Sport and Red Sport.

The 2.0-liter turbo four rates 22/30/25 miles per gallon City/Highway/Combined by the EPA. The twin-turbo V6 gets 19/28/22 mpg, while the Red Sport gets 20/27/22 mpg. That’s a bit less than the BMW 4 Series at 25 mpg Combined, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupes that get the same with their turbo four.

The 2018 Infiniti Q60 2.0t Pure ($38,950) comes equipped with 19-inch wheels, LED headlamps, keyless ignition, leatherette seating, power adjustable front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual touchscreens for infotainment and car settings, Bluetooth streaming, and a rearview camera.

The Q60 2.0t Luxe ($41,300) comes with more equipment, such as a moonroof and 13-speaker Bose sound system. Available equipment includes blind-spot monitors, a surround-view system, power adjustable steering wheel, heated leather seats, navigation, rear collision prevention, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

All-wheel drive is optional ($2000.) Rear-wheel drive is standard. (Prices are MSRP and do not include destination charge.)

Q60 Pure is available with the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive ($46,300). Also available: the 3.0t AWS Sport ($50,300) and the AWD Red Sport 400 ($54,000). Both the Sport and Red Sport 400 come with just rear-wheel drive, as well.

A Technology Package available with some models brings automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning with active lane control, using Infiniti’s steer-by-wire system.

Pictures don’t do the Q60 justice. In person, it’s striking. The hood isn’t as long as those on other luxury coupes, but it isn’t needed to carry the profile. The edges are smooth, when viewed from the side, and the pronounced shoulders are sleek. A chrome kinked C-pillar dramatically doubles back on itself.

The most prominent feature is its big mouth, perched between LED running lights that look like angry squinting eyes. There’s a pinch in the hood formed by lines from the fascia climbing through the Infiniti badge on the grille, leading to a steeply raked windshield.

In the rear, there’s a short deck with small spoiler. The fascia makes the wide rear track and tires look wider.

The cabin is big and bright, and looks larger than that of other luxury coupes; especially in white, it looks bigger than it actually is. Infiniti is known for the quality of its interior materials, and it especially shows in the upper models where it comes in red or white leather, with accents in silver or graphite, and trim in wood or faux carbon-fiber. The buttons have a secure feel to them.

It’s a shame the dual touchscreen system is so problematic. In our Red Sport, sometimes the settings on the top and bottom screens didn’t match, especially the driving modes. And simple actions often require clicking through a complex menu, for example setting the clock.

The front seats are wide and accommodating, with optional bolstering that conforms to athletic bodies. It’s easy to find a natural driving position using the standard power adjustment, while the big windows expand visibility. Big fender bulges make it easy to place the front wheels. Rearward visibility isn’t restricted too much by the wide C-pillars.

The rear seats appear more inviting than in the BMW 4 Series, although there’s one inch less legroom. The two cars have the same length, but the wheelbase of the Q60 is two inches longer, so theoretically it should have more space in the rear.

The glove box is big enough to hold an iPad, but the trunk only holds 12 cubic feet, considerably smaller than the BMW 4 Series’ 15.1 cubic feet.

The interior is extremely quiet and composed, thanks to a lot of sound-deadening material. The Bose premium audio system uses new sound compression software and jazz never sounded so good.

Driving Impressions

The base four-cylinder is smooth and quick enough for many Q60 buyers, who care about the car’s smoothness and luxury, not its power. That’s what the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 is for. It’s fairly new to the Infinity family of engines, cousin to the V6 that’s in the super-fast Nissan GT-R sports car.

In the V6 models there is a mind-spinning number of settings available, including damper stiffness, throttle response, steering heft and ratio, and Active Trace Control, an electronic torque-vectoring system that helps the Q60 bite and rotate through corners by applying brakes to inside wheels and adding torque to outside wheels.

The 7-speed automatic transmission that’s in the Q60 has made its way around the Nissan/Infiniti lineup a few times now. At low speeds the transmission is hesitant unless it’s being shifted manually with the paddles. At higher speeds it’s more willing.

In some cases, the transmission shifts are dictated by the navigation system. It’s a new technology that we question the need for. As if it’s going to get it right.

The Q60 also features Infiniti’s latest Direct Adaptive Steering, an electronic steer-by-wire system. In the past we preferred the standard mechanical power steering in the Q50 sedan, but we like this new system in the Q60 just as much. The Q60’s advanced safety systems require the steer-by-wire system. Engineers say it’s quicker to respond, and makes the Q60 more comfortable at lower speeds, and for the most part they’re right, because the Q60’s movements have slowed to a more progressive rate for a better, predictable response. We still felt the need to select Sport+ for the most resistance at the steering wheel, for a more direct feel.

So we can say that choosing the safest Q60 doesn’t require a compromise in steering feel. If you don’t call driving around town in Sport+ a compromise.

Presumably the transmission is beefed up in the Red Sport 400, with its stump-pulling 350 pound-feet of torque (versus the four-cylinder’s 258 lb-ft). The Red Sport gets a beefier suspension for better grip in corners. It’s a adaptive double wishbone in front and multi-link in the rear.

The Red Sport’s power comes on fast, happily smoking its wide 265/35R19 rear tires. But it’s not so happy slowing back down, as we wish the brakes didn’t fade so quickly. The base Q60 gets 12.6-inch front and 12.1-inch rear rotors, while the Red Sport gets four-piston 14-inch front and two-piston 13.8-inch rear brakes, so it stops quicker, but not necessarily more times without overheating. After a half-spirited sprint in the hills outside San Diego, we smelled the pads smoking.

With a car that flaunts such beauty, we wonder if a four-cylinder engine making just 208 horsepower is style-appropriate. And the 400-hp Red Sport has some tough competition as a full-on sports coupe, although Infiniti buyers probably don’t care about that, with looks on their side. So maybe that leaves the twin-turbo V6 in the middle. Just don’t let the navigation system do your shifting for you.

About These Prices

As you know, pricing cars is particularly complicated. One of our duties at CarQuotes.com is to help our customers comprehend this process better.

Three important prices we may show on a particular vehicle

CarQuotes.com Estimated Target Price is for research purposes only. It reflects a typical, negotiated price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges, such as dealer documentation fees, tire and battery disposal fees, license and registration, and where applicable, finance charges) generally found for the vehicle that you selected. The Estimated Target Price is NOT a price quote from CarQuotes.com or any other dealer. If you request a price quote from a dealer via CarQuotes.com displaying an estimated target price, your price may differ.

Invoice is commonly known as the published amount that the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle. This may or may not represent a close relation to the dealer’s actual cost, but can be beneficial as a benchmark. This figure is available on many other web sites however CarQuotes.com adds an estimate of local and regional fees from manufacturer to the dealers to this price, which makes it very close to the actual invoice amount for cars at your local dealer.

MSRP is the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. This is a proposed price only. For most vehicles, the CarQuotes.com price is below this amount. Some high demand cars may be priced over this amount.

Estimated Target Price

The CarQuotes.com Target Price is to be used as a general guide that reflects a typical, market price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges) generally found for the vehicle that you selected. This price is based on our research and estimates of supply and demand in the marketplace. There are many factors that go into the final price of a particular vehicle including local supply and demand. Your final price may differ.

CarQuotes.com Estimated Target Prices include

The ’base’ price of the vehicle
All options that you select
Base Destination Charges — this is a charge that is added to the base price for every vehicle
Any related Estimated Manufacture to Consumer Cash Rebates. Note: rebates are subject to change at any time. Please make sure to confirm any consumer Cash rebates with your dealer representative at the time of purchase.

CarQuotes.com Estimated price(s) do NOT include any of the following:

Local taxes, license fees and other local fees, such as dealer documentation fees, tire and battery disposal fees, and where applicable, finance charges — these fees are also excluded from Dealer Invoice and MSRP and would be excluded from most advertisements you might see.
Random ’special qualification’ rebates — i.e., for new college grads only; for customers trading in a specific type of car.  Ask your dealer Representative for more information on ’special qualification’ rebates.

CarQuotes Estimated Dealer Price

The Estimated CarQuotes Dealer Price is an estimate of the pricing presented to CarQuotes members from CarQuotes Authorized Dealers in your area, and is calculated by subtracting an estimated savings value from the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price ("MSRP") as well as a value that relates to invoice for the "ideal vehicle" you configured. Dealer documentation, administrative or similar processing fees are not included in the price estimate. Any vehicle configured on the CarQuotes website is an "ideal vehicle" and may not exist at a CarQuotes Authorized Dealer or any other partner dealer. Each Dealer attempts to match a member’s vehicle preferences with the best possible selection from current, in-stock inventory.

Estimated Savings

The Estimated Savings represents the estimated amount of savings off of MSRP available to you from CarQuotes Dealers for a vehicle consistent with your configured preferences plus any customer incentives currently available.  This is also true when it comes to CarQuotes estimated target prices. Your actual savings will depend on several factors including market conditions, the style of vehicle you select, installed options, dealer coverage, and applicable manufacturer incentives. Each dealer sets its own pricing.

Advertised Rebates, Special Manufacturer Financing or Leasing Programs

In most cases, you must choose between these programs OR a customer rebate or a special manufacturer-to-dealer incentive that may or may not already be included in your CarQuotes.com Target Price. So, your final price may go up if you take advantage of special manufacturer financing. Credit Union members should contact their Credit Union loan department to determine what type of loan and financing options are right for you.

Please note that CarQuotes.com strives to include identified manufacturer incentives within the CarQuotes.com Target Price. CarQuotes.com does not administer these programs, which are subject to and often change without notice. Eligibility for these programs is subject to verification by a licensed auto dealer.

Ask your dealer representative for complete manufacturer program details for your area, and how participation in these programs will affect your price.

Base Vehicle

The base vehicle is the vehicle before any optional equipment or destination fees have been added. All of the standard features are included in the base vehicle.

This is the total charge for all optional equipment included in the configuration of your virtual vehicle. The Options charge varies depending on whether it is calculated based on the Factory Invoice or MSRP. Options are not included in the base vehicle price and are not considered standard features.

Regional Fees

A Regional Fee is the fee a manufacturer charges a dealer to advertise and promote the vehicle in the dealer’s market. CarQuotes also includes estimated manufacturer preparation charges (manufacturer charges to the dealer to cover any work done on the car prior to delivering it to the dealership) and fuel charges (the charge for the fuel in the tank when the buyer purchases the vehicle) in this total. CarQuotes attempts to include regional ad fees in its Factory Invoice calculations; other sites at times do not.

Destination Fees

These are the amounts that manufacturers charge to deliver a vehicle from the factory to the dealership.

Customer Incentives

Customer incentives are also commonly known as customer cash or bonus incentives. These incentives are offered by manufacturers as a way of enticing buyers into purchasing a vehicle.

Note: Dealer Invoice amount might not be the amount that the dealer paid to the manufacturer

Dealer Invoice price may or may not bear close relation to a dealer’s actual cost for the vehicle. In some cases, a cost for a vehicle may be significantly less than the invoice price originally paid for the vehicle. Any difference between invoice price and the dealer’s final cost may be caused by many factors including factory refunds, rebates, allowances, or incentives which the manufacturer or distributor may provide to the dealer.
